What Would Jesus Do? The acronym simply states our Christian responsibility to live as a follower of Christ. It is our responsibility to share the truth of Jesus Christ to everyone we meet. We can share this truth in many ways; by the spoken word (also called ìwitnessingî), by the written word (the Bible and other great reading materials) and by example (living a life of love and service to others).
Living the life as a member in the church is not just about being a member, but a disciple, one who is willing to forget oneself and work for Christ. God wants all of us to be immersed in studying and applying the Word to become servants of Christ and humanity in a life that will last for eternity.
"Were not our hearts burning within us...."
Our hearts are burning because we have experieced the joy of knowing Christ. We have experienced his touch in Baptism, his encouragement in the the Lord's Supper and and his peace through his Word of forgiveness.
We want others to know Christ. We look for practical ways to show God's love to people around us. Activities that we participate in are: the community dinners we offer once a month, handing out Carnations on Valentine's Day, giving out drinks and hot dogs during the Ocean Beach Street fair, offering books of matches for the different shops in town to give to people.
We want to be sincere about our compassion. Then, when we have an opportunity to talk about our Savior, we take it!
Luke 24:32-34 "They asked each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?’ They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together and saying, ‘It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon’" |
