At Bethany, we want you to be able to experience the praise music, the friendly folks, the encouraging messages and the close-knit atmosphere. We understand that questions may arise about your first visit to a church.

How do I get there?
Bethany is located at 2051 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. (Between Brighton Ave. and Cape May Ave.) We do have a Parking Lot which is located off the alley between Bethany Lutheran and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. If you're coming from the Freeway, the entrance to our parking lot is on the left side of Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Parking is also available on the side streets. If you pass Santa Monica, youíve gone too far. Map
What should I wear?
Our church is located in the heart of the Ocean Beach (OB) community. Come to church in shorts, jeans, Hawaiian t-shirts and sneakers and you'll fit right in. We want you to be comfortable, so dress casually as you normally would. Our pastor does wear a robe during the service.
What should I expect in church?
You'll enjoy praise music and sensible messages that help you deal with every-day issues and situations. We include an outline with the Bible passages that will help you to follow along with the message. Our Powerpoint screen follows the same outline as well.
During the greeting time we mingle throughout the church and greet each other with hugs, hand shakes and say, "Hi" Or we say "Peace be with you." We do this to share in the joy of fellowship. If you don't feel comfortable getting out of your pew, you don't have to! We'll come to you and say hello.
We partake in the Lord's Supper or Communion every week. We believe that the Lord's Supper (bread and wine) is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. The benefit of taking the Lord's Supper is to receive the body and blood of our Savior for the forgiveness of sins and strengthening of our faith. The Lord's Supper is for Christians who believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to Salvation, repent of their sins and by God's strength intend to amend their sinful lives. If you visit us and are not sure if you are ready to receive, feel free to come forward and receive a blessing. Just place a finger over your mouth when you come up.
What's available for the kids?
We have a nursery in the back of the sanctuary so that you or the children can hear the message and watch through a large, bay window.
What does the Lutheran (LCMS) denomination believe?
Lutheranism had it's beginnings in 1517, when Martin Luther publicly called for the correction of errors in the medieval church. Luther was a pastor, professor, author, composer of hymns and reformer. His ideas still stimulate new thinking in the church he is respected, but NOT WORSHIPPED! (taken from Being Lutheran booklet)
Lutheranism teaches that a person is saved by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
